Are Zebra mats safer than roll-out mats?

Yes. Roll-out mats use closed-cell foam where the energy being absorbed on impact is returned to the athlete, resulting in greater potential of injury due to shock to the body. Traditional Zebra mats are designed with open-cell foam where the impact is absorbed and dispersed through the foam core, allowing energy to escape. This allows for a lighter impact on the body and a significant reduction in injuries.

What is Tatami?

Tatami is a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese-style rooms. In martial arts, tatami is most commonly seen as a textured surface, known to increase stability and grip underfoot. Most traditional martial arts utilize a tatami-textured mat in their facilities/dojos.

Why does the cost of freight seem high?

There are 3 primary reasons that freight costs may appear high:

  1. Designed first and foremost to provide the optimum training experience, our products from mats, to bag racks, to cage panels are all custom sized pieces that do not fit on standard 48”x40” pallets, and therefore carriers charge a premium to transport them.
  2. The majority of our customers are small businesses with no receiving department or shipping dock. Carriers charge extra to deliver to residential addresses, malls, strip malls, and to use lift gates and set appointments. These are valuable services that small business owners need and we try to make every effort to provide them if requested.
  3. State and Federal regulators have put pressure on the transportation industry by limiting work hours, requiring expensive equipment upgrades, and mandating certain fuel and carbon limitations. These recent changes have required the carriers to purchase new equipment, hire more drivers, and make expensive upgrades. Unfortunately, consumers, including Zebra and our valued customers, ultimately pay for these things through our negotiated service rates.

Do Zebra mats expand and contract with heat?

That depends on the type of mat and the type of foam. Closed-cell foams found in our puzzle mats and roll-out mats are subject to expansion and contraction. Open-cell foams found in our MMA mats, grappling mats, and yoga tiles are not subject to expansion and contraction.

Do Zebra mats have any latex in them?

The training surface of our mats does not have latex; however the anti-skid backing on the bottoms of the mats does contain latex. Once the mats are laid down in the proper method, your students should not be exposed to any latex.

Can my logo be printed on Zebra Mats?

Yes, we print logos on Zebra Mats as well as many of our other products. Contact our sales team to learn about how Zebra can help you personalize your space.

What type of file do I need to provide to have my logo placed on Zebra products?

We require a vector file for printing items onto our product. This enables us to scale the logo up large enough to stand out in your facility without it getting distorted. Vector files are most often created in Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or Encapsulated Postscript (.eps) format and should be available from whoever created your logo.

How long does it take to add custom printing to my Zebra products?

From a manufacturing perspective, adding custom prints to your product can add anywhere from 1-7 business days to the manufacturing cycle time. However, the most common delay caused by custom printing is due to inadequate customer logo files, so to ensure the shortest turnaround time, have a vector version of your logo ready just the way you want it printed when you are ready to order.

Are Zebra mats made of recycled materials?

Yes, the foam inside our Zebra Mats (Combo, Grappling and MMA mats), as well as our yoga tiles is made from recycled materials.

Do you make custom size Zebra mats?

Not at this time, but you can cut them yourself using our Zebra Mat Cutting Instructions.

Used Mats

What are Zebra Tournament Mats?

We sponsor various events throughout the country, which rely on Zebra’s mats for a safe, durable, competition-specific surface. These mats are occasionally available for sale after the event and can be readied for pickup from the event or delivery to your location.

BONUS! Tournament mats come with the same 10-year warranty as NEW stock, yet are offered at a discount. This is great way to outfit your facility with Zebra, while saving on the costs of the mats, and in most cases, freight as well.

What is the condition of Zebra Tournament Mats?

Condition varies, based on the type of event and style of mat. The mats used at these event(s) typically show about the same amount of wear as mats that are 1 month old, in a normal facility. These mats should not have any cuts, rips, tears, or cracks and should not show any excessive wear and tear. In some cases there may be some light soil or rub-like marks due to movement and transport, however this in no-way affects the integrity of the mat and is purely aesthetic. In most cases, the majority of these marks can be removed using Zebra Mat Cleaner.

What mats are used by the IBJJF?

The IBJJF uses Zebra’s 1.5” MMA mats or 1.5” grappling mats at events in the USA. Occasionally these mats are for sale after the tournaments. Ask your Zebra sales representative for more information.

What mats are used by the ATA?

The ATA uses Zebra’s 1.5” grappling mats and 1” combo mats at events in the USA. Occasionally these mats are for sale after the tournaments. Ask your sales representative for more information.

Installation

How do I layout my Zebra mats?

Whether you are trying to match competition standards, or make a space that is uniquely yours, the Zebra Sales and Support teams will be glad to help you determine the best layout to meet your needs. Contact us at 800-989-8085 and we can provide you with a layout specific to your room.

Do I need to glue my Zebra Mats to the floor?

No. The mats are designed with an anti-slip material on the bottom side that contributes to stability and helps prevent the mats from shifting when placed directly onto a smooth and clean hard surface such as concrete or hardwood flooring. We recommend purchasing our Zebra Frame Kit to keep your mats in place and/or placing the mats wall to wall to prevent them from moving.

How do I cut my Zebra Mats to fit?

Cutting your mats to fit your facility is a simple procedure. Refer to our mat cutting instructions for help.

Will you precut Zebra Mats for my facility?

We do not precut Zebra Mats. There are too many variable items in a facility that would affect the size of the mat. However, we do offer mat cutting instructions so you can easily cut the mates to fit your facility.

Do you offer installation services?

I have gaps in my mats, what do I do?

If you see a gap in your Zebra floor, try adjusting the positioning of your mats by swapping out mats in different areas of your floor. The mats can also be manipulated together by tapping them into place using a mallet and a piece of wood.

I have carpeting on my floor and I cannot remove it, what do I do?

Why don’t you include wall and floor mounting hardware with racks?

Each building and wall is different. Since we do not know the material properties of your particular building, it is best to inspect your wall and get the advice of a professional when determining what type of wall and floor hardware to use.

Can I mount my Zebra racks into concrete block, poured cement, wood, steel studs?

For all install questions, please contact our Customer Support department at Support@ZebraAthletics.com or 763-255-1590. They can provide you with rack weights, but these must be checked with your building manager and construction professional to determine if your particular wall will support the weight of our racking.

I’m having a hard time setting up my Zebra cage, boxing ring, etc. Can you provide any guidance?

Certainly! Please contact our Customer Support department for assistance at Support@ZebraAthletics.com or 763-255-1590. Please keep in mind it is best to send a few pictures so we can get a visual on the situation to help you most efficiently.

My Zebra wall pads don’t fit, can I modify them?

Yes. Remove staples from the back of the pad. Measure the cuts to be made and mark onto the pad. Use a circular saw or jig saw to make cuts. Re-wrap the vinyl and staple the vinyl back together.

What type of wall best supports a Zebra wall mounted bag rack?

A concrete poured wall is the best with the proper anchors. Other wall types will work as long as they are properly reinforced and the correct hardware is used.

What type of wood do I need for a Zebra cage floor?

The thickness of the wood needed is 1 ½”. You can either use 2 layers of plywood or OSB that is ¾” thick or dimensional lumber which is 1 ½” thick. Dimensional lumber has a tendency to warp unless each board is fastened to the frame. So, plywood is recommended. If you did not receive a cut sheet with your order, please contact our Customer Support department at Support@ZebraAthletics.com or 763-255-1590 and they will give you one.

Is the Zebra cage panel coated with anything?

Yes, the chain links in the panels are coated with black vinyl.

Mat Care

What’s the best way to carry my Zebra mats when moving them?

When handling your mats, the proper technique is to carry the mats vertically to eliminate any excessive bending.

How do I clean my Zebra mats?

We’re glad you asked. Clean mats are very important for maximum safety and performance. Please refer to our mat cleaning instructions:

Can I use bleach to disinfect my Zebra mats?

Zebra does not recommend using bleach on your mats as it can destroy the vinyl on the mats and can void your product warranty. We recommend disinfecting your mats with Zebra Enviro-Care Neutral Disinfectant cleaner.

How do I repair a tear or cut in my Zebra mats?

You can find a vinyl repair kit at most hardware stores or online marketplaces. These are a clear epoxy designed to seal vinyl products. Follow the directions on the packaging.

Ordering

What are Zebra’s payment options?

Zebra will accept deposits to start manufacturing or to reserve inventory, but payment in full is required before your product will ship. We accept cash, credit cards, checks, PayPal, and wire transfers. Financing is also available. Click here to learn more about financing options.

Can we set up payment terms with Zebra?

We only offer payment terms for most military, law enforcement, and government organizations.

What is the Zebra delivery process?

Once your order has been placed and processed, you will receive an order confirmation email from our customer support team informing you of the expected ship date.

Once the order has shipped, you will receive a second email containing the order tracking information.

IMPORTANT RECEIVING INFORMATION:

RECORD who you talk with when the freight company calls to set up the delivery appointment.

CONFIRM your delivery time with the freight company on the morning of your scheduled delivery.

REMOVE your product from the truck. The driver is not responsible for unloading your product. If you have purchased a lift gate, the driver will lower the product to ground level. Make sure to have a sufficient amount of people there to assist with unloading.

INSPECT your order for damage and/or missing items before you sign the freight delivery receipt. In the event of missing items or if damage occurred during the shipping process, it is critical you record any damage or missing items on the freight delivery receipt before signing. If you do not sign for the product as damage, Zebra cannot help you replace the product.

How long does it take to get Zebra mats?

In-stock Zebra mat orders ship within 48 hours of payment. Transit time depends on your location, but averages 3-4 business days, and may take up to 6 business days.

WE RECOMMEND that you call us a few weeks in advance to reserve your mats and ensure we can deliver when you need them. Ask your Zebra sales representative about expedited shipping options if the transit times mentioned above do not meet your needs.

How long does it take to get steel items?

We do not stock our steel products. Manufacturing time is approximately 3-4 weeks. Shipping is approximately 1 week. When ordering steel it is best to call us a couple months before you need the items to ensure we can deliver your items when you need them.

Do you offer custom sized steel equipment?

Yes we do! However, all custom products require new manufacturing drawings and as a result, almost always increase lead times. Contact your Zebra sales representative to find out if customization is a good solution for your facility.

Can I arrange my own freight?

You certainly can. Ask your Zebra sales representative for more details if you are interested in this option.

Can I pick up items at your facility?

Sure. We love visitors. We will contact you when your products are available for pick up.

How do I get a W-9 form?

Zebra has fire rating documentation for Zebra Mats and Wall Padding upon request. Please contact the Zebra Customer Support team at 763-255-1590 or Support@ZebraAthletics.com and we will help you get the specific information you require.

My facility was flooded. What do I do now?

Sorry to hear that! Contact the Zebra Customer Support department at 763-255-1590 or Support@ZebraAthletics.com and we can help you assess the damage of your mats. If the mats are unsalvageable, we can provide a letter for your insurance company explaining why it will be necessary to replace the product.

What is Zebra’s return policy?

If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with any of Zebra’s products, you may return product within 30 days of purchase for a refund. There is a restocking fee of 15% of the product purchase price for all products that are returned. Original shipping and handling costs are not refundable, and the customer is responsible for paying for return shipping costs. Product that has been damaged in any way is not returnable.

It is very important to inspect your shipment upon delivery to ensure there was no damage to the product during transit (such as scrapes, dings, excessive dirt, or tears). In the event that damage has occurred during the shipping process, it is critical for you to record the damage on the freight delivery receipt before signing. We will also need you to take pictures of the damage and of the freight delivery receipt showing the product was signed for as damaged. Contact the Zebra Customer Support department at 763-255-1590 or Support@ZebraAthletics.com and we will work with you to get replacements for any damaged items. If you do not sign for the product as damaged, Zebra cannot help you replace the product.

What do I do if I am missing an item on my order?

Upon arrival, inspect your order to ensure all items are accounted for. In the event that you are missing items, it is critical for you to record the missing items on the freight delivery receipt before signing. Contact the Zebra Customer Support department at 763-255-1590 or Support@ZebraAthletics.com and we will work with you to supply any missing items. If you do not sign for the product as missing, Zebra cannot help you replace the product.

How do I change my order after it has been placed?

How do I make my mat area in my facility ADA compliant?

In some instances ADA compliance requirements may be defined all the way down to the local municipality level, so contact your local authority to determine what is required to make your facility ADA compliant. Once requirements have determined, ask your Zebra sales representative about products that will help you meet your requirements.

Do I have to remove the tape before rolling up my roll out mats?

We recommend removing the tape before rolling up the mats. Otherwise the tape will ripple and there will not be a smooth surface on the mats.

How do I get the tape residue off of my mats?

A small amount of rubbing alcohol will usually do the trick.
