Elisabeth Clay: Moving Forward After Dropping Out of the ADCC

For those of you who have been following my Facebook or Instagram, you know that I had to pull out of ADCC for a knee injury. The results of the arthrogram MRI just came in: I do not have a complete tear of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), but there is a lot of injury to the PCL and the posterior capsule with lots of fluid, as well as some other stuff.

My orthopedic surgeon does not want me hyper extending that knee, so I am in a brace to prevent hyperextension. I will undergo physical therapy to strengthen the muscles and increase proprioception along with other modalities such as microcurrent and (will soon add in) cold laser therapy to speed up healing and decrease inflammation. For now, I can drill lightly with the brace, but no rolling. I am committed to working through my physical therapy to come back better, stronger, and more determined.

I Live for the Grind

I am so sorry to let you all, and myself, down with this injury, but I keep telling myself that it is part of the sport. I live for the grind. This is truly one of the most difficult things in my life. When anything is wrong elsewhere in my life, I train and train hard. Now my outlet is not there as I need it to be. But I am on my way back. Please keep watching for me, I will keep you posted on my progress and upcoming competitions. I plan to be back for Pans and Worlds 2018.

Thank you for following me, for all of the support I have received from you all, and for my wonderful sponsors and team. I could not do all of this without you.
