The novel coronavirus is surging again across the world, producing record numbers of cases and deaths across the country. In many states, lawmakers have begun to enforce restrictions for businesses, similar to what happened in the spring of 2020. Among these restrictions is the closing of gyms, which is difficult for both gym owners and their members.
This winter, aside from virtual classes, what can gym owners do to stay connected to their members? Here are a few suggestions.
Host Zoom Parties
Many facilities offer their members virtual classes over Zoom during lockdowns. Adding in extra activities over Zoom can be a great way to connect with your members and keep them engaged with the gym. Zoom happy hours, for the adult members, is one option. Several companies have come out with virtual games that can be played over Zoom as well. Send out an invite asking your members to grab their favorite beverage and prepare for an evening of fun. For your younger students who may not be old enough to text their gym friends, temporary gym closures can mean not communicating with their friends until the gym opens again. Set up a group Zoom call for your kids’ team where their parents can help their little ones talk to their gym friends and get ready to see big smiles over video.
Share Video Messages
A simple way to stay connected with your gym members uses an easy upgrade from texts. Record a short video message telling your students that you miss them and can’t wait to see them back in the gym once it’s safe and send it out. You can do this over email for one video to the group. However, if you have the time and are looking to make it even more special, you can record individual messages for your students. This is a great way to let your students know how much they mean to you and your gym.
Keep up with Social Media Engagement
Just because your gym is temporarily closed doesn’t mean you should also close down your social media. Social media is an easy way to keep your gym on your members’ radars. Post photos from prior gym classes and events and let students know that you can’t wait to make more memories. Encourage your students to post their favorite gym memories. You can also follow your members on their social media to keep up to date on their lives and what they are doing during lockdown.
