Mother’s Day Message From Zebra Yoga

Happy Mother’s Day! This year, we take a minute to shine a spotlight on all the hard work that mothers do. From working mothers to stay-at-home moms, single moms and those who are the head of the household, we thank you for all that you do for your families. Just don’t forget to set some time aside for yourself every now and then!

By the Numbers: Facts About Motherhood

  • According to the 2016 Census, there are 43.5 million mothers between the ages of 15 and 50 in the US.
  • These mothers have given birth to about 95.8 million children.
  • In 2015, there were 9.9 million single mothers with children under the age of 18.
  • There were also 5.2 million stay-at-home mothers who were married.

The Number of Stay-at-Home Mothers is Rising

For decades, the number of stay-at-home mothers was on the decline. In 1967, 49 percent of mothers were considered stay-at-home. By 1999, this number had dropped to 23 percent. By 2012, we were back up at 29%, and the number has been on the rise since.

It’s estimated that stay-at-home mothers work about 97 hours a week, which, including overtime pay, would net them about $115,000 year for their work, if they held a job.

That’s a whole lot of work to be grateful for, which is why we take the time on Mother’s Day to say thank you to all the mothers who work so hard so that their children can grow up in comfort and happiness.

Taking Time for Yourself

Whether you work or are a stay-at-home mom, the time you put aside for yourself is likely limited, but it’s essential to maintaining a healthy and happy lifestyle. If you are into yoga, this means that it’s likely hard to set aside time to go to the gym.

But keeping up with your yoga routine is important to maintaining a healthy body and mind. Even if you only have 15-30 minutes to set aside, it is more than enough time for a quick routine. Whether you are looking to unwind by holding a few relaxing poses or want to quickly get your heart rate up with a fast-paced sequence, you can do this all from the comfort of your own home.

Even if you don’t have a yoga mat, a spare towel will do. If you want to treat yourself to something better, check out our yoga practice bases and yoga mat towels. It’s your day, and it’s your life, so take the time to keep yourself happy and healthy.

Happy Mother’s Day!
